Foreign Language Study Abroad
Doane students in Language Programs are required to study abroad to fulfill the requirements of the language, major or minor. Students and professors see the opportunity to study abroad as a useful and often essential tool to understand cultural and language differences between the USA and other countries. Doane Spanish and German majors require specific Study Abroad programs, but different experiences may be substituted after discussing it with an advisor.
Often students find themselves in unique experiences when planning Study abroad. Students should speak with the Director of International Programs and their advisors. Credits earned while studying abroad for a language major, usually are not transferred back as pass/fail.
Foreign Language Study Abroad Questions
What if I am in both a Language Program and the Honors Program?
Students in both programs should focus on their language program requirements. Almost all language programs will fulfill the Honors Program requirements.
What if I am majoring in more than one language?
Students majoring in multiple languages will need to participate in a study abroad for each language. It does not need to be in the same academic year, and students will continue to get their Doane-funded financial aid for each of those semesters.
