Measure 5:  Graduation Rates for Initial Licensure

Doane University College of Education reports the numbers of teacher candidates enrolled and program completers.   

Initial Undergraduate Program: The enrollment counts column below reflects students admitted to the program. Typically, teacher candidates are admitted to the Teacher Education Program after their sophomore year.  Typically, program completers are seniors graduating in May and completing additional 12 hours of summer graduate coursework for certification. The completion rate below reflects those who completed a certification “on time” finishing a Bachelor’s degree in 4 years.

Initial Program at the Advanced Level:  Typically, teacher candidates are admitted to the Teacher Education Program upon admittance into the graduate program.  Cohorts vary depending on area of endorsement or major.   Secondary endorsement candidates complete the requirements taking course work and field experiences during the following sequence:  a summer, a fall, a spring, and another summer.  Candidates pursuing certification in Elementary Education or Special Education follow a program of courses and field experiences during the following sequence: a summer, a fall, a spring, a summer and a fall.

The charts below provide information on the number of candidates entering the Teacher Education Program and the number of candidates completing the program, with certification measured by the calendar year of August 1 – July 31.
